Man, 31, On Trial For Alleged Stealing, Threat To Life

A 31-year-old Bolaji Olayinka on Thursday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged threat to life, a breach of public peace and stealing N150,000.

The accused, who resides at No. 44, Oloto St., Ebute Meta, Lagos State, is facing a four-count charge of violence, manner likely to cause a breach of the peace, stealing and unlawful attempt to kill.

The prosecutor, Insp. Richard Odigie, told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 6, at Oloto St., Ebute Meta.

Odigie said that the accused and the complainant, one Iyabo Akanbi, were known to each other.

Odigie, however, said that the accused had before the day of the attack had been threatening the complainant.

On the day of the attack, the accused armed himself with a machete and other dangerous weapons had traced the house of the complainant.

“Bolaji had, on the day of the incident, traced the complainant to her residence and ordered that she handed over to him all the proceeds she had made for the day.

“When Iyabo attempted to shout for help, the accused grabbed her, and subsequently stabbed her both in the neck and on the head before making away with her N150, 000” , he said.

Odigie said that the offences contravened Sections 156, 228, 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 228 says that the offender is liable to life imprisonment.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

Chief Magistrate O.I. Adelaja granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Adelaja then adjourned the case till July 1 for mention
