A 26 years old civil servant from Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi state has committed suicide throwing his family and friends into mourning.

The deceased identified as Daniel Haruna allegedly drank a poisonous substance, Gamaline-20, commonly used as a rodents last Sunday.

Our correspondent learnt that Daniel was battling with drinking and found it impossible to drop the bad habit, a development that made him to be in constant need of money.

According to a family member who pleaded anonymity Daniel who lived with his younger brother, Musa came home late last Saturday and asked his younger brother for food.

Musa replied Daniel that whether he had forgotten that he had left with the money that they were supposed to use to cook on that faithful day and he could not prepare meal.

A source said that Musa was woken from sleep by sounds of groaning and saw his brother in pain; he taught he was drunk as usual and went to look for milk to stop the vomiting.

Unfortunately, Musa could not find milk that late and so he went to sleep and woke up the next morning to see his brother was still in pain.

It was gathered that Daniel had told Musa to call some of their family members together where he informed them that he had actually taken poison to kill himself and asked them to forgive him for whatever wrong he might have done to them.

Daniel was rushed to the General Hospital Dass where he died. According to family sources, doctors confirmed that he died of poisoning.

Some neighbours who brought him food on Sallah day recalled that he called them to collect their plates “because very soon they won’t see him again and he will not be responsible for anything that happen to their plates.”

When contacted, the spokesman of Bauchi state Police Command DSP Haruna Mohammed said he was not aware of the incident but promised to find out.
