Fed Cup

Either of Lobi Stars of Makurdi and Akwa United are just hours away from becoming winner of this year’s Federation Cup competition.

The two will lock horns today at the Teslim Balogun stadium, Surelere, Lagos. Both teams holds this match so dear, as they all battled to stay in the elite league in the immediate past season of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).

There is so much to play for, as the winner would pick one of the CAF Confederation Cup tickets left for Nigeria.

This year’s Federation cup saw regulars like Enyimba and others being booted out early by relatively unknown sides.

Lobi Stars defeated non-league side, BJ Foundation 2-1 in Lokoja to set up their semi-final clash against Rangers, which Lobi won 2-1 under controversial circumstances.

Akwa United, on their part, defeated Niger Tornadoes’ Feeders on penalties in Makurdi to book a semi-final clash against Nasarawa United, the team that ousted FC Ifeanyi Ubah. They defeated Nasarawa 1-0 in Ilorin to reach their first ever Federation Cup finals.

Although, the odds favour Akwa United, as new kids on the block against a Lobi that has won the Federation Cup in 2003, their form could help them upset the Makurdi side.
