LAGOS – The League Management Company (LMC) and Kano Pillars have denied that Enyimba players and officials were attacked on Wednesday moments after Enyimba won the rescheduled league match 2-1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kano. Idris Malikawa, Pillars Media Officer, while denying the said attack, noted that it was not true, insisting that the visiting players were protected while inside the stadium. “Nobody attacked the players of Enyimba inside the stadium because they were adequately protected. When the referee blew the final whistle, we all moved out, including the players of Enyimba and nobody was attacked,” he said. He, however, agreed that Enyimba’s driver had a minor squabble with the security personnel at the stadium, leading to a minor injury. “It was only the driver that had a minor issue with the security at the entrance of the stadium, resulting in a minor injury. But I am telling you that nobody intimidated Enyimba players,” he said. Also Harry Iwuala, the image maker of the LMC, was coy over the situation when Independent called him. He rather asked whether any player of Enyimba can come out and said he was attacked in Kano. “Mention any single Enyimba player that was attacked in Kano, then we will verify that,” he said. “It is not about allegation, call Enyimba and let them tell you if any of their players was attacked,” he questioned. But Farriel Alaputa, Enyimba’s Media Officer, confirmed that the players were attacked. “Yes they attacked us after the match. The fans went on rampage and even injured our driver,” he said. Fracas, it was alleged broke out after Enyimba came from a goal down to beat Pillars 2-1, recording its first victory against the team in Kano for the first time since 1998. The picture of Enyimba’s bus driver with swollen face allegedly from injuries in the attack went viral on the social media.
