Lagos –  Yinka Odumakin, the National Publicity Secretary of Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere has urged leaders in the country to learn from the death of late  Head of  State,  Sani Abacha who died exactly 18 years ago.

The late Abacha died under circumstances that are still unclear in Aso Villa on June 8 1998. He was aged 54.

Speaking in a chat with Independent, Odumakin who said power is transient said Nigerians should use Abacha’s death as a reference point for what the Biblical King Solomon said about the vanity of life.

“There was a time when Abacha had the power of life and death over Nigeria. You could wake up in the morning only for him to decide you are spending the evening in your grave. He was regarded all over the land as a maximum ruler and his word was law”.

“ He maimed, jailed and killed with reckless abandon. But where is he today? Nigerians should use Abacha to understand what Solomon taught about vanity. Power is transient and what endure are the positives you use it to do”.

“M.K.O Abiola will always be celebrated but Abacha would always be remembered with scorn. It is all about power perception. Leaders should learn through his death that power is transient and only God has absolute powers” he said.
