Following the conclusion of the general elections last Saturday, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has challenged those elected at all levels to work together to re-unite the country.
Ekweremadu threw the challenge at the weekend in an interview with journalists at his Mpu country home in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.
He advised those elected to put behind all those things that divide the people and then begin to think about our state, country and constituency irrespective of party affiliation.
“Essentially politics ends today and governance will start by Monday. We should put behind all these things and then begin to think about our state and country and our constituency irrespective of party persuasion.
“So, I think we have seen the end of partisan politics today. We should move forward. We should be talking about governance. We should be talking about leadership. We are all going to put our head together to heal the wounds and how to heal a country that is fragmented,” Ekweremadu said.
He maintained that it was very fundamental that elected leaders and those to be appointed would devote their time to see that they heal the wounds of the past and bring the country to speak with one voice.
“After all, we have one people we represent. Irrespective of our political parties, there is one Nigeria. Whatever we are doing, we are doing it for just the same people.
“The earlier we come together and work as a people, the better for us,” Ekweremadu said.
