Member of the House of Representatives, Igariwey Enwo,  representing Afikpo North-south federal constituency of Ebonyi State, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to develop fresh policies that will quickly address the economic challenges affecting the country lest the country slide into recession.

Enwo, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Monday, said the economy has not shown any sign of improvement under the present administration, and so the President has to brace up and save the nation from economy calamity.

The lawmaker said that since inception of the current administration, various sectors of the country have not yet recorded the change promised by the President and his party during campaigns.

“If you look at the economic sector, economists and other commentators will tell you that there hasn’t been any form of policy direction by the administration and it is impacting heavily on virtually every aspect of our economic life.

“You see the economy almost on a free fall; people will tell you that the economy is heading towards recession.

“We are not where we ought to be, especially when everybody is telling you that this administration came to pull us as it were from economic woes.

“We haven’t seen much in terms of policies, direction and bringing in any serious focus on the economic issues that bedevil us presently,” he said.

Speaking on Buhari’s efforts at curbing corruption, the lawmaker urged the federal government to be more pro-active in prosecuting the culprits.

“Corruption is a structural thing, it is not something you fight by mere talk, and if you want to confront it, it is not what you fight with a tainted weapon,” Enwo said.
