President Muhammadu Buhari has been challenged to develop fresh policies that will quickly address the economic challenges affecting the country so that Nigeria will not enter recession.

Hon  Igariwey Enwo  representing Afikpo North, South federal constituency of Ebonyi and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) in an interview with newsmen in Abuja said the economy has not shown any sign of improvement under the present administration, and thus, charged the president to brace up and save the nation from possible economy calamity.

The lawmaker said that since inception of the current administration, various sectors in the country had yet to record expected changes promised by the party during campaigns.

He said that the call also became necessary in view of the need for the present administration to assuage the yearning of Nigerians for speedy development of the country. Enwo further faulted the president for not yet constituting his cabinet, saying that the absence of ministers is adversely affecting its performance.

“If you look at the economic sector, economists and other commentators will tell you that there hasn’t been any form of policy direction by the administration and it is impacting heavily on virtually every aspect of our economic life.

“You see the economy almost on a free fall; people will tell you that the economy is heading towards recession.

“We are not where we ought to be, especially when everybody is telling you that this administration came to pull us at it were from the economic woes.

“We haven’t seen much in terms of policies, direction and bringing in any serious focus on the economic issues that bedevil us presently,’’ he said.

Enwo  who canvassed the need for the government to also develop new initiatives in fighting insurgency, said the Buhari administration has not done anything tangible in fighting the insurgents.
