Professor Adeniyi Gbadegesin, Vice Chancellor, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has restated the commitment of his management team to ensure a conducive academic environment in the institution’s campus.

Professor Gbadegesin spoke at the 2015/2016 Matriculation ceremony held at the campus of the university in Ogbomoso.

The vice chancellor said that efforts geared towards providing a peaceful academic environment must be reciprocated by students by being diligent and committed to their studies.

Gbadegesin, who advised the new students to give undivided attention to the main purpose of coming to the university.

He said that extra-curricular activities, though good for their wholesome development, warned against allowing such to take the place of the academic work of the students.

Counseling the students further, the vice chancellor said “by formally admitting you today as members of this community of learning, the complexion of the population is bound to experience a change but this is expected to be a change for better.

“Many of you are testing for the first time, freedom from parental control and monitoring. It is for your good that you handle the freedom with caution. Misused freedom is actually worse than slavery.

“The university authorities will continue to pay due attention to your welfare and ensure conducive atmosphere for you to learn and achieve the purpose of your being here,” he assured.

Mr. Jacob Agboola, registrar of the institution, later administered oath of matriculation on the students.
