Contrary to expectations of some Nigerians, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Lai Mohammed, may not become Nigeria’s Minister of Information under the Muhammadu Buhari- led administration, one of the party’s top official has revealed.

Speaking to Daily Independent on Monday, the official who chose to remain anonymous said the party’s secretariat has received several letters from concerned Nigerians nominating Mohammed as the right man to steer the ship of the Information and Communications ministry.

He however added that inasmuch as the party is determined to give Nigerians the very best of minds to serve under the Buhari government, it will not allow the party which according to him is still a ‘fledgling one’ to suffer.

“I can tell you that we have received several letters from concerned Nigerians nominating certain individuals for key positions. Some have suggested that we choose a former governor from the South- West as the Works Minister, others nominated him for the Ministry of Power, while some said we should allow him become the Attorney- General and Minister of Justice so as to reform the country’s judicial sector.”

“Yes, we have had several names being touted for several positions, but one name keeps resonating and that is Lai Mohammed as Nigeria’s Minister of Information.”

“Deep down, we know that Mohammed will perform creditably well in that capacity or any other assignment but everybody cannot just leave the APC like that and go into government.

“We still need people like him in the APC to help wedge the party together and give the PDP who will be picking fault in every step taken by the new government a good fight.”
