As battle for the next Speaker of the 8th session of the Lagos State House of Assembly hots up, efforts to produce a consensus candidate amongtthe returning members have reportedly failed as the aspirants are bent on clinching the position.

Sources close to the lawmakers and leaders of the Assembly, revealed that numerous meetings have been held in the House of a top leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and at the premises of the Assembly on the contentious issue all to no avail.

Aspirants for the office of the Speaker include Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa 2), Hon. Mudashiru Obasa (Agege 1), Hon. Moshood Olanrewaju Oshun (Lagos Mainland 2), Hon. Adefunmilayo Tejuosho (Mushin 1), Hon. Rotimi Abiru (Shomolu 2) and Hon. Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun (Lagos Island 1).

It was gathered that the leadership of the party appears to be tilting towards zoning the post to Lagos Central since the Governor-elect, Akinwunmi Ambode is from Lagos East and the Deputy Governor Elect, Ranti Adebule is from Lagos West.
