The Lagos state government on Monday, June 29, 2015 inaugurated an 18-man committee expected to pilot affairs of reforming the Local government in the state.

Inaugurating the committee in Alausa, the state Head of Service, Mrs. Folashade Jaji, said that local governments are the closest arm of government to the people.

She explained that as the third tier of government it directly determines the what, when and how the citizens can benefit and enjoy dividends of democracy.

She further stated that in the attempt to find the missing link between the government and the people, that the Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode, decided that there is an urgent need to address the administrative governance structure and service delivery process in the local governments across the state.

“There is no gain saying that for quite some time now, citizens have not felt much impact from their local governments. This is in spite of the huge human resources available in their domain for the development of their communities. In order to make sure that the citizens of the state reap the dividends of democracy is one of the core reasons our governor set up this committee. Also reaping the dividends of democracy is the watch word of this administration.” she said
