‘Lagos Boxing Tourney’ll Produce Good Pugilists For AAG’

National boxing coach, Tony Konyegwachi, has said that the national open boxing championship, which will hold at Brai Ayonote Boxing Gym, National Stadium, Lagos, from June 29 to July 6 ahead of the All Africa Games, will produce good boxers that will represent the country at the Africa showpiece.

Speaking to journalists on his arrival to Lagos from Jos, Plateau State, for the event, Konyegwachi said the tourney was packaged by the Nigerian Boxing Federation (NBF) to select the best pugilists for the All Africa Games.

He said at the end of the tourney, the best boxers will be selected to represent the country.

The boxing coach said Male boxers are to compete across 10 weight categories, while the female boxers will compete in six weight categories.

“There will be a national open boxing championship for boxers across Nigeria towards the All Africa Games coming up in Congo Brazzaville.

“The boxing championship will run for one week which starts from June 29 until July 6, and it will be at the Brai Ayonote Boxing Gym.

“We are using the championship to bring the best boxers that will represent Nigeria at the All Africa Games. The best pugilists for the All Africa Games will be produced at the tourney. We are ready to give Nigerians the best boxers that will do the country proud.”
