Top officials of Spanish top-flight league, La Liga, are due on a working visit to Nigeria from next Sunday. “The officials will arrive Nigeria from Sunday in continuation of our working agreement,” disclosed Shehu Dikko, chairman of the League Management Company (LMC). Both the Nigeria league and La Liga are exploring areas of co-operation and collaboration. Last month, both leagues signed a pact in Madrid.
La Liga boasts of top clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid with their superstars Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and the competition is closely followed in Nigeria on pay television. The officials are expected to depart Nigeria on Tuesday, April 26.
Meanwhile, Shehu Dikko, has thrown more light on why the LMC actually signed bilateral deal with the Spanish League managers.
In a chat with Independent on Sunday, Dikko said the essence of the agreement is to further develop the league in terms of branding, broadcast rights, financial planning and capacity development among others.

The Nigeria Football Federation Vice-President said the desire to enhance the league is a continuous exercise, pointing out that the League Management Company is not relenting on that score.
“The agreement will help to further develop the league; we are looking at such critical areas as branding and television rights, among others,” he said.

Speaking further, the LMC boss said the agreement with the La Liga management would also help the domestic league in the areas of proper financial management and sponsorship.
It will be recalled that Dikko traveled to Spain last month where a developmental deal was signed by La Liga management and LMC.
The discussion in Spain between LMC and La Liga covered such areas of interest as the International Football Development Programme, Commercial Development and Branding, Broadcasting Rights, Financial Planning and Controls, Security, Legal Structures, Data Management and Commercialisation, Integrity, Training and Capacity Development.
The meeting in Madrid also provided the representatives from the two leagues with the opportunity to share ideas and experiences.
The two league bodies conclusively agreed to pursue projects of common objectives and to enter into a bilateral agreement, in due course and set clear timelines for the conclusion of the processes.
