The Kwara State government has closed down 10 unauthorised private schools in the state.

Yisa Yeketi, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, who made this known to newsmen during a ministerial press briefing, said the 10 schools were in Ilorin West local government area alone.

Yeketi said the state government was monitoring schools and the performance of teachers with a view to checking practices that could jeopardise the education standard.

He also disclosed that teachers in a school that were not on duty twice when he led a monitoring tour to their school had been sanctioned.

As part of efforts to improve the standard of education in the state, the ministry has embarked on  arrangements for an education summit before the end of the year,

The summit would build on the recommendations of a previous one held by the preceding administration in the state.

Yeketi also disclosed plans by his ministry to train 250 teachers in entrepreneurship, in conjunction with the Kwara State University, Malete, in an effort to introduce entrepreneurship trainings students at school and make them better citizens.
