Lokoja – The National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) has joined other political and soci-cultural groups in Kogi State in appealing to the striking lecturers of the Kogi State University, Anyigba, to call off their three-month-long strike, in the overall interest of the state.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lokoja Tuesday, Comrade Ahmadu Ibrahim, president of the association, said the industrial dispute has  affected both parents and students, who were  tired of staying at home.

He argued that, since Governor Yahaya Bello had already met 80 per cent of the demands of the lecturers, there was need for the lecturers to call off the strike to pave way for the remaining unresolved matters to be thrashed out amicably.

He said there is need for the lecturers to renegotiate regarding their demands, in the interest of the students who are at the receiving end of the dispute.

The association also expressed shock over the recent ultimatum given to the governor to pay the striking lecturers by the leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students, saying NAKOSS was never informed before the decision was taken.

Ibrahim, therefore, dissociated the body from the position taken by NANS, saying the governor should rather be commended for his concerted efforts in reaching out to the lecturers with a view to ending the strike.
