The traditional leader of the Kanuris in Lagos, Mai- Kanuribe of Lagos, Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed has commended Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for supporting President Muhammadu Buhari.

He spoke with our correspondent In Lagos during an interview.

According to him, Tinubu and others have demonstrated true spirit of statesman for ensuring that the President won the last poll.

In the same vein, he condemned in strong term reports linking the Governor of Borno State Kashim Shettima with the Boko Haram sect.

Mustapha, who is also the Sarkin Hausawa of Apapa averred that the report was a calculated to smear the image of the governor.

An online media (not Daily Independent) had published a report Governor Shettima with the dreaded Boko Haram sect.

He was quoted to have said, ‘’ my administration would among other policies pursue amnesty for members of Boko Haram who are ready to de- radicalize. I would lobby the new federal government of president Buhari to consider granting amnesty to the militants’’.

The Kanuri leader said that the comment was capable of sending a  wrong  signal to the world in portraying the governor as one of the sponsors of the sect.

‘’ In our culture, we do accord our leaders, emirs and imams respect, such should be extended to the governor. I believe it is the fifth columnists that are behind this, they want to distract the governor because they are jealous of his achievement and victory at the poll for a second term’’, the Sarkin Hausawa said.

Also, Mustapha said such publication was capable of unsettling supporters of the Governor both in Lagos and in Borno state.
