Lagos – Nwankwo Kanu, former Super Eagles captain, has condemned U-23 poor preparation for the Rio Olympics.
He said on Tuesday that the team has had one of the poorest preparations heading into the Games and warned that such shoddy way might spell a doom for the team.
The Olympic gold medalist, however, showered praises on team coach, Samson Siasia, for his doggedness and sacrifices to ensuring that his team succeeds in Rio, while absolving him and the players of any blame should they fail to live up to expectation
“Things are not done this way; I will tell you that during our own time, we had the best of preparation and the result was there for all to see. How can they be abandoned abroad and the authorities feel relaxed?
“In a society where things are done right, Siasia should be commended for even muscling his way to the United States with the players. This is one coach that wants to succeed and things are not working his way,” Kanu said.
He said that the coach and the players would be blameless should the team fails to meet the expectation of Nigerians.
“In this situation, who will blame them if they fail? To me, they have done so much for mere participation at the Games because they were not prepared to win anything and nothing much should be expected from them.”
