The Kano State government has promised to give maximum support to players and officials of Kano Pillars Football Club and Kano Pillars Basketball Club, an official said on Monday.

Kano State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Mohammed Garba, said the two state-owned clubs were sure of full support in their quest to excel.

“The Kano State government, led by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, is ready at all times to ensure the two clubs retain their top spots in the Nigerian leagues,” he told the News Agency of Nigeria.

The two clubs are the defending champions in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and the DSTV/NBBF Men’s Premier Basketball League.

Both clubs are currently campaigning to defend their titles.

Garba said he had already conveyed government’s message of support to both clubs while addressing players of the basketball team after their match against Mark Mentors in Abuja on Friday.

“I advised the players to remain committed to their quest to bring honour to the state, as government is desirous of doing all within its means to make them achieve their target.

“We have also charged the players to be disciplined on and off the pitch, as the new administration in the state, under the able leadership of Ganduje, is committed to improving on the state of sports in the state,” he said.
