The Kano State Hisbah Board has said that it has arrested 67 beggars in Kano metropolis as part of renewed effort to enforce the anti-street begging law in the state.

Public Relations Officer of the board, Malam Mohammed Yusuf, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano.

Yusuf said the beggars were apprehended during two separate operations along the streets in parts of the metropolis.

“Some of the beggars were arrested at beer parlors, while others were caught roaming the streets looking for alms.

“We will screen them and keep them under our custody for further investigation,” Yusuf said.

He explained that the board would continue to carry out similar operations in the state in order to rid Kano streets of beggars. Yusuf announced that the board had recorded 248 cases on issues related to matrimony, prostitution, rape and theft, among others.

He urged parents to ensure proper upbringing of their children, so as to check social vices among them.
