Workers of Kaduna State Water Board today shut down the supply plants in protest of 10 months unpaid salary areas.

Bashir Haladu Saleh, who championed the protest told newsmen that the need to shut down the plants became necessary after exploiting the available avenues to resolve the matter could not yield positive results.

According to Bashir, “We have used all available means to get the attention of the state government to pay us our salaries without result”.

“Our members are dying because they can not afford medical bills while several others could not perform their financial obligation either as husband or as wife. We cannot continue this way”.

“A member of state assembly has promised to take up the matter with his colleagues in the House but we were later told to come to the Assembly complex which is against our initial agreement with him. We have waited for more than enough time. And we have been forced to shut down the plants until we heard positive news from them,” he stated.

However, boarding school children around Malali and entire populace of Kaduna State who depend on public water have been urged to look for alternate means of meeting their domestic water needs pending on the time their matter will be looked into.

Efforts to speak with the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Mr. Samuel Aruwan for clarification over the allegation failed as his two mobile lines were switched-off as at the time of filing this report.
