Kaduna NSCDC arrests man with pistol

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kaduna State Command, has arrested a man with pistol in Kaduna metropolis during a stop and search operation.

Jonathan Ahmadu, 29, was picked up at about 10.30 p.m. during the routine operation by an NSCDC personnel at Ahmadu Bello Stadium for illegal possession of a locally made pistol.

On interrogation, Ahmadu confessed was said to have that he bought the weapon in his village, Maraban Babo, Kagarko Local Government area, from one Ibrahim Mohammed in 2010 at the cost N5, 000 with five rounds of ammunition, but that he had exhausted the ammunition.

The suspect claimed that he was heading to his office, KASU, where he kept his Permanent Voter Card to enable him pick it and vote in the just governorship and state Assembly elections in Kaduna.

Asked why he was concealing a pistol to polling booth, the suspect pleaded for pardon, saying the fire-arm in his possession was obtained through an illegal source.

It would be recalled that prior to the elections, the Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Zakari Ibrahim Ningi, had called on the public to shun violence and embrace peace as the hallmark of development.

He directed that appropriate security measures including proactive steps be taken during and after the exercise to nip any ugly incidence in the bud.
