In continuation of the restructuring exercise going on at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the newly appointed Group Managing Director, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, has sacked the Managing Director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Prince Haruna Momoh.

This brings to nine the number of top management staff of the corporation that have been fired in the last forty-eight hours.

Before Momoh’s appointment as the Managing Director of the company in 2011, he had a stint as Group General Manager and Senior Technical Assistant to the Hon. Minister of Petroleum resources.

Momoh had his Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of Benin, his MBA in Information Technology from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, and his Barrister at Law at the Nigeria Law School, Lagos.

He worked as in-house Counsel to NNPC for Eleme Petrochemical Complex Project from 1988 to 1996. From there, he became a legal advisor to Eleme Petrochemicals Company Limited (EPCL) and later Company Secretary.

From 2005-2006 Momoh moved to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Limited where he continued his role as Company Secretary and Legal Advisor.

He served as Company Secretary of PPMC from 2006-2010 and a year later he took over as the managing director of PPMC.

Meanwhile, Kachikwu had summarily retired eight Group Executive Directors of the corporation.

Sequel to the sack, the NNPC had written in a statement made available to the media that: “The Federal Government has approved the retirement of all eight Group Executive Directors of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) with immediate effect.”

“The affected Group Executive Directors are: Mr. Bernard Otti, GED Finance and Accounts; Dr. Timothy Okon, Acting GED Exploration and Production who also doubles as Coordinator Corporate Planning & Strategy; Engr. Adebayo Ibirogba, Engineering and Technology; Dr. David Ige, Gas and Power; Ms. Aisha Abdurrahman, Commercial and Investment; Dr. Dan Efebo, Corporate Services; Engr. Ian Udoh, Refining & Petrochemicals; and Dr. Attahiru Yusuf, Business Development.”

“The new Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, who personally conveyed the Federal Government’s decision to the retiring Group Executive Directors expressed gratitude to them for their services to the Corporation and wished them success in their future endeavors.”

Daily Independent, however, gathered that the ongoing sacking spree at the corporation might not be unconnected with a decision to have All Progressives Congress (APC) loyalists at the helm of affairs of the corporation.
