Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s ex-aide on Domestic Matters and Social Events, Waripamowei Dudafa, on Friday, September 4, 2015, debunked reports that the former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has directed him to support the second-term bid of Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson.

Dudafa in a statement in Yenagoa also denied claims that Patience had asked him to drop his ambition to succeed Dickson and endorse the governor’s re-election bid.

Reports had indicated that the long-standing rift between Mrs. Jonathan and Dickson had been settled and that she had directed her loyalists, including Dudafa, to work for the governor and the Peoples Democratic Party for the December 5, 2015 governorship election.

She was said to have been prevailed upon by some Bayelsa elders led by former Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, who advised her to ensure that the All Progressives Congress does not capture the state to disgrace her husband.

But Dudafa in the statement signed by the former Secretary of the defunct pro-Jonathan support group, Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) and former Commissioner for Federal Programmes and Projects, Gesiye Isowo, denied that Patience asked him to back Dickson’s re-election.

Dudafa reiterated his stance that the PDP would lose Bayelsa if it fielded Dickson as its flag-bearer for the forthcoming election.

He said that he has still has scores to settle with the governor, accusing him of masterminding his expulsion from the PDP for alleged anti-party activities including the sponsorship of the electoral victory of Tarabina Abiye of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) during the state Houses of Assembly election in the state.

Dudafa also alleged that Dickson instigated the invasion of his Yenagoa home by some unidentified armed men, adding that the governor had been allegedly sponsoring online media attacks against him over his expulsion from the PDP.

The statement read in part, “Our attention has been drawn to a story making the rounds in the print and electronic media concerning a decision said to have been taken by Her Excellency ,the former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, to support the second term bid of Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, where it was also reported that Dr. Waripamowei Dudafa was consequently directed to work for Dickson too.

“Firstly, there is no truth in the claim that Her Excellency the former First Lady directed Dr. Dudafa to work for the re-election of Gov. Dickson.

“His opposition to the return of Dickson for a second tenure as governor of Bayelsa was not directed by anybody, therefore, the issue of his being directed to act otherwise cannot arise”.
