Jaji, Agbesanwa Hail LASTMA, SUBEB Feat

Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs Folashade Sherifat Jaji and new Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr Ayo Agbesanwa have commended the effort of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, (LASTMA) football team and Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board football team (SUBEB) for emerging the champions at the just concluded Lagos HOS Cup football competition.

In the final of male category played at Agege Stadium, LASTMA defeated two time champions, SUBEB 2-0, while SUBEB humbled Lagos State Sports Commission 2-0 in the female category.

Jaji, who was among the invited guests that watched the finals told Journalists that the finalists played well but the better side won the game. She said both LASTMA and SUBEB deserved to be crowned as champions in their respective categories.

“It was a wonderful and exciting final. I must confess that the finalists played to the delight of their fans and I congratulate LASTMA and SUBEB for their victories. It was a final one cannot quickly forget because the civil servants came out in large numbers and gave their teams the needed support,” she said.

In his own remarks, Agbesanwa said he was impressed with the performance of the finalists saying that Lagos HOS has come of age. He insisted that Lagos HOS Cup has become a tournament that attract thousands of civil servants and football fans in the state and vowed that his commission will continue to support the tournament.

“The Lagos HOS Cup has yielded good results since inception. The competition has brought many civil servants to limelight. I congratulate the champions for their feats and I believe that the Lagos State Sports Commission will continue to give its support,” he said.

Highlight of this year’s finals was the presentation of awards, medals and trophies to teams and individuals.

In the individual award, Esther Okeowo of SUBEB won the most valuable player award and the highest goal scorer in the female category while Akin Ogundele of LASTMA and Olawale Sanusi emerged Most Valuable Player and Highest Goal scorer respectively in the male category.

The fair play award went to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development and the Public Service Office in the male and female categories respectively.
