Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship flag-bearer in Edo State, has promised to give the people of the state dividends of democracy in its full measure while also promising to revive all the dead industries in the state.

He made the promise when members of the state chapter of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) and also the state branch of the socio-cultural group, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) led by Prince Sylvester Eweka paid him a solidarity visit in his country home situated off Ugbor Road in GRA, Benin City.

The ex- secretary to the state government said that he is throwing his hat into the ring because of his desire to better the lot of the people of the state who have been yearning for good governance and accountability in the last eight years. He asserted that he would not let them down.

Pastor Ize-Iyamu urged the people of the state to be vigilant in the days ahead as a lot of things would be done by some mischievous elements all in a bid to thwart the desire of the people.

He promised to reach out to all the nooks and crannies of the state in spreading development.

He disclosed that he got his tutelage in politics from late Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, the founder of the UPN, while he was a member of the party in the 1980s.

Earlier, Prince Eweka told the gubernatorial hopeful that they are also using the opportunity of the visit to declare their total support for his candidature and thus adopt him as their candidate for the Saturday, September 10 poll.

Prince Eweka disclosed that members of the OPC would henceforth provide a water tight security around Pastor Ize-Iyamu and his team in all his campaign venues around the 18 local government areas of the state.

In another development, Pastor Ize-Iyamu has promised to revive dead industries in the state when he assumes office as the governor by November 12.

He was speaking when he received Kelvin Omoruyi, Director of Mobilization, Initiative for Youth Awareness on Migration (Returnees Foundation) and immediate past president, Edo State Students Association, School of Health, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), who had trekked nine hours from Ekiadolor in Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state to the PDP state secretariat in Benin City in support of Pastor Ize-Iyamu’s candidacy.

Welcoming the young man, Pastor Ize-Iyamu stressed that one of the major tasks he would address when he becomes governor is the issue of high rate of unemployment in the state, which has been biting hard for eight years.

He said the state workforce of 2000 workers was a far cry from what obtains in the neighbouring Delta State, which has about 16,000 workers on its pay roll.

Pastor Ize-Iyamu also promised to make available bursary allowance to all students of the state origin in tertiary institutions all over the country, which has not been forthcoming in the last eight years.

Earlier, Omoruyi said he had undertaken the nine hour trekk because of his belief in Pastor Ize-Iyamu’s midas touch to bring the state back on its feet.

He appealed to the guber hopeful to create job opportunities for the youths most of whom have been roaming the streets in an endless search for jobs.
