Benin – Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Monday promised to introduce new skills as subjects into the curriculum of secondary schools in the state so that graduates can be self-employed and earn a living instead searching for jobs.

He said it is high time that income generating skills like catering, hair dressing, plumbing, computer graphics and several others with which youths can employ themselves are made part of the school curriculum.

According to the governorship candidate who was speaking at an interactive session with the Edo Mass Movement in Benin City, “If elected governor my government’s plans is to teach our children skills that will enable them to turn Edo into a place where people from far and near can come to, to hire skilled labour.

“With a certificate in one skill you can decide not to go further to the university and work for yourself but you will not suffer because you have a skill you can feed from and even use to contribute to the economy of the state”.

Ize-Iyamu said his dream is to restore the glory of the public school system in the state by providing them with well trained and motivated teachers, equipping the schools with science laboratories, libraries as well as boarding facilities.

“We will restore the glory of the public school system by maintaining existing schools and the setting up and equipping of more schools especially in our rural communities to bring education closer to the grassroots,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Ize-Iyamu has promised that at this time of her development, Edo as a state needs a visionary leader, that is accountable, accessible, humane and selfless, adding that as an individual he possesses these qualities.

“We need a visionary leader that is God-fearing and broad minded and has the experience to tell the people the reality of things and the way forward”, the candidate noted.

He concluded that as a former Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Special Assistant, a pastor, lawyer and farmer, he will deliver on the right leadership Edo needs at this critical time.
