Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a business mogul and frontline politician, has remained a faithful member and leader of the now major opposition party,Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he rose to become and has remained a member of the party’s  high profile Board of Trustees (BoT).

Although many had at a time considered him fit to go for the Presidency, Iwuanyanwu preferred to be loyal associate of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, becoming his campaign manager in the southeast geo-political zone. He was then rewarded as Chairman of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi.

Iwuanyanwu is regarded as one of the unseen hands in the nomination, appointment and election of governors, ministers, ambassadors and other political appointees, thus making him a godfather not only in Imo PDP, but also the South East states. In the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, he commands a lot of respect and has remained one of those who speak and Ndigbo listen.

From his Glass House head office in Owerri, he stands tall like the Rock of Gibraltar, as people flood there to pay their homage, ask for one favour or the other, including lobbying for political offices. The esteemed position of this politician has made him to remain relevant even as many emerging Igbo politicians would have wanted him to quit the scene for allegedly making the South East continue to play second or even third fiddle in the national political equation.

But, Iwuanyanwu, the Atta, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State born civil engineer, has remained unperturbed and continues to work towards the unification of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since after the party’s dismal performance in some parts of the country.

But one thing goes for him, he has managed to ensure that PDP holds sway in the South East, despite the inroad of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), the Peoples Progressives Party (PPA), the All Progressives Congress (APC), which dramatically took over his state under the Rocha Okorocha’s magic wand and the United Progressive Party (UPP).

But, with the Rochas’ magic seemingly waning and fading, Iwuanyanwu has been making frantic efforts to ensure that there is total reconciliation in PDP, in Imo state in particular and the South East in general, with a view to wrestling back political power from APC and APGA in Imo and Anambra respectively and consolidating the party’s hold in Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi states as was the case in the past.

Only last week, a meeting of the PDP stalwarts was held at his Ugwu Oji Glass House Office, Owerri in Imo state. Indeed, the state capital was taken over by major stakeholders from all nooks and crannies of the state and the zone, an indication that the party is not really dead as many had thought.

With Iwuanyanwu as captain of the PDP ship in the zone, the members are beginning to believe that the party’s victory in South East come 2019 is a foregone conclusion. How possible is it? Only time will tell.
