Itoya Predicts Strong Finish For Wolves

Kelvin Itoya, the Warri Wolves winger, has predicted a strong finish for his side ahead of the second stanza of the ongoing Nigerian league, saying the target of the Seasiders is a continental ticket.

The second stanza of the league is scheduled to start on June 5, and the player has said Wolves would be a team to beat.

The Seasiders, who finished last season as runners up, failed to start on a high this term due to some obvious reasons Itoya highlighted.

Wolves demonstrated huge experience when it defeated Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Yarmalight, 3-2 in the 2016 Federation Cup round of 64 tie but the Seasiders struggled at the start of the match.

“Well, it was a tight match for us coming from behind twice to win the game but it’s always the case in the Federation Cup. We struggled in the first half but we came back stronger in the second half and we showed our class and eventually won the game,” Itoya told Goal.

“We struggled at the beginning of the 2015/16 NPFL season due to loss of so many first team players and it was difficult for us to understand ourselves having so many new players which also contributed to our ouster from the CAF Champions League but I will say we are beginning to find our bearing and that helped us a lot during the end of the first stanza.”

With the NPFL on mid-season break, clubs are expected to correct the wrongs and Itoya has made a bold statement.

“All we want is to keep working hard to get at least a continental ticket because Warri Wolves hasn’t missed out of the continent for about four seasons now so this season won’t be an exception,” Itoya added.
