Ishaku wins Taraba gov poll

Former Minister of State Niger Delta Affairs, and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Darius Shako, has emerged the winner of Saturday’s governorship rerun election, which held in 10 local government areas of Tarawa State, with 369,318 votes, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Aisha Alhassan, trailed behind with 275,984 votes.

Daily Independent gathered from reliable sources on Sunday that the Acting Governor, Sani Abubakar Danladi, and Senator Joel Danlami Ikenya the Minister of Labour and Productivity were instrumental to his success, particularly against the backdrop of his stint as Minister of State Niger Delta Affairs, Power as well as the Supervising Minister of Environment.

On April 13, the Independent National Electoral Commission, through its Returning Officer in the state,

Prof. Mohammed Kyari, declared the April11 governorship election as inconclusive and fixed April 25 for a rerun in 20 local government areas of the state.

During the April 11 election, the margin of votes between APC and PDP was 54,812, but in the rerun of on Saturday, the margin was 93,334.

The APC, speaking through the party’s agent at the state collation centre, Gambo Usman, has said it disagreed with the result and it would seek redress at the election tribunal.
