Irate Youths Attack Tafida At El-Rufai’s Inauguration

THE former Senator representing Zone One in Kaduna State and now Ambassador to United Kingdom, Sariki Tafida, narrowly escaped being lynched by youths in Kaduna during the inauguration of the governor-elect, Nasiru el-Rufai. Tafida, who had come to show support to the governor-elect, was sighted by the youths after they had also sighted the Emir of Zaria whom they alleged was against the emergence of el-Rufai. The youths, who were chanting Sabo Governor, Sabo Sariki, meaning “New Governor, New Emir”, had resorted to embarrassing those they perceived as strong PDP members and those opposed to the success of APC in the state. The Ambassador, who was smuggled out of the venue by his aides, was driven out to safety by a Jeep with registration number Abuja Kuje 431. Though the main target the youths said was the Emir whom they alleged had openly showed his support to el-Rufai’s opponent, ex-Governor Muktar Yero. Yero, who was absent at the occasion, had handed over to the new governor a day before the swearing in. According to one of the youths who spoke to Daily Independent at the venue, “this is our time, we are here to show support to our party “Sai Baba, Sai Mallam, Kaduna Sai APC.
