The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued certificates of return to lawmakers-elect who won the April 11 elections into 30 constituencies in Anambra State.

State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr Edwin Nwatarali, said in Awka that INEC had completed its 2015 electoral process by issuing the certificate to the winners in the elections.

He advised candidates who felt shortchanged by INEC decisions to seek redress at the tribunal, adding that could any result already made public.

“Once election results are announced, INEC can no longer do anything. Even the Chairman of the commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, cannot upturn it. The only window you have is to go to court.”

He also said if a contrary court judgment was made, the commission would withdraw the certificate and re-issue it to the candidate directed by the court.

Among those issued certificates were three victorious candidates from the PDP – Mr Francis Okoye (Anaocha 1); Mr Charles Ezeani, (Anaocha II); and Mr Augustine Offor, Ekwusigo state constituency.

The remaining 27 were from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

In a remark on behalf of the victorious candidates, Mrs Beverly Nkemdiche, a returning member of the Assembly representing Onitsha South Constituency, commended INEC for the peaceful conduct of the election and promised that the lawmakers would serve to the best of their ability.
