Industrial unions mark health and safety day

As part of the renewed efforts to improve workers’ welfare and working condition in Nigeria, industrial affiliates unions in the country will today join other trade unions, employers’ organizations and safety and health practitioners to raise awareness and campaign on the emerging trends in the field of occupational safety and health and on the magnitude of work-related injuries, diseases and fatalities worldwide.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) celebrates the annual World Day for Occupational Safety and Health at Work on the 28 April to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally

The Assistant General Secretary of National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTW), Comrade Isamail Bello, who told newsmen in Lagos on Monday that healthy and safe workplaces in the country rest on the tripod of respect for workers rights, said the over 50 workers unions will also use the occasion to reflect on the raging nexus between industry and the environment in Nigeria.
