Chief Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman (South West) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has identified indiscipline as the major challenge facing the party.
George made the declaration on Tuesday during the party’s general meeting in Lagos.
“People did not obey the rule of the party; some people have even invented their rules in defiant of the party’s constitution,” he said.
He vowed that such practices would no longer be tolerated in the party which was known for discipline in the past.
George further promised that the party would adopt internal democracy in the election of candidates for the forthcoming local government election in Lagos State.
“I have never imposed a candidate on the people even in Lagos Island local government area where I stay,” he asserted.
The former military governor of Old Ondo State further stated that the defeat of PDP in the last general election was caused by traitors within.
“We had some people who are PDP in the day but APC in the night; those people worked more for the defeat of the party in the last election,” he stated.
On the alleged crisis in the party, George described the action of few people that met sometimes ago to sack the state executive as embarrassing and malicious.
“According to the constitution of the party, it is only the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party that has the power to remove the state executive,” he stated.
He said the accusation by the group that the current state executive of the party led by Tunji Shelle as chairman caused the defeat of the party in the last general elections was unfounded.
“In the history of the party in Lagos here we have never got up to eight members in the state House of Assembly, but it was Shelle that led to the party to such feat in the last election,” he said.
