Following the price increase in flour, the Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, Bauchi state chapter has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike action.

The state chairman of the Association Alhaji Adamu Baba Muhammad stated this while speaking with newsmen in his office, with the increment in flour price which is the major raw material for bread making”we have no option apart from the strike action.

“We shall embark on strike action from Wednesday 27th January to press home our demand,” he said.

According to him, over the years, the Association had experienced minor increments on the prices of flour and sugar without making it known to the public.

Adamu Baba said  a bag of flour was now sold at eight thousand two hundred Naira as against six thousand two hundred Naira last month and expressed concern with the situation which according to him will not augur well for bakeries and the end users.

He said some members of the Association have suspended their production which has started making impact on consumers.

Adamu Baba disclosed that over 2,000 bakeries in the state have been seriously affected with the increase in price, called on the state government to intervene to avoid the impending strike action.

He said the Association had formally informed the state governor, the Emir of Bauchi and other relevant bodies on the matter.
