After more than two decades of epileptic electricity supply, residents of Sapele and its environs have described the seeming constant power now enjoyed in the areas as ‘mysterious’.

Some of the Sapele residences, who described the development as a very surprising and wonderful thing, said that power companies in the past have never done such for many years. They said that the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) should be called Buhari.

Mr. Umukoro Ufuoma, a resident, said that the electricity company should be made to explain why the area which had power supply for only four hours a day in years past was still made to pay heavy bills for such few supply.

He expressed the view that the Federal Government might have threatened to revoke the operational license of the BEDC, thus the electricity company’s supply of electricity.

“If not for reasons best known to them they have been keeping the town in permanent darkness, with the flimsy excuses that Sapele people are indebted to the organization which is not true,” he said.

He, however,  advised the BEDC to sustain the tempo and not to make the people believe that they are only been apprehensive of government’s intension to take their operational license, and never a makeshift arrangement to deceive the people further of their nefarious act of punishing the people unjustly.

Ufuoma who said the action of BEDC showed that they had been very wicked and cruel to Nigerians all along, pointed out that if they could ensure constant power supply now, they should be made to explain why it had not be possible in the past.

A staff of BEDC in Sapele who pleaded anonymity however said that the problem of power supply to Sapele and its environs lay with the investor and the distribution company.
