Former Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju, has called on Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) clubs to make the welfare of their players a priority saying it would help improve their performance.

Adepoju made the call during the week in an interview, while he also commended the NPFL first round as impressive with lots of improvement particularly in the area of officiating.

According to him, “The first round of the NPFL was very impressive. The league is really improving, especially in the area of officiating.

“NPFL officiating this season is not what it used to be, there was a lot of improvement in the first round of the league and the teams too have improved also.

“We have watched quality matches with interesting away wins and draw which is good for the league.

“But, one very important aspect I would want the clubs to take as a priority is the welfare of the players. If the clubs can improve on the players’ welfare, I’m very sure they will do better than their present performance, “Adepoju said.

On the sacked coaches during the first round, Adepoju fondly called ‘headmaster’ by admires in his Eagles days reasoned: “Club hire a coaches and if they are not satisfied with his performance, the y have the right to also sack him.”

Adepoju added however that the gale of sack was unfortunate, “It is unfortunate what coaches go through in Nigeria. That a team did not win a match may not be the fault of the coach all the time and it does not also make him a bad coach

“There are lots of factors which could the success of a club and which also should not be blamed on the coach as well,” he concluded.
