The Osun State House of Assembly on Tuesday declared that it is still awaiting the response of Governor Rauf Aregbesola to the impeachment petition written by Justice Folahanmi Oloyede of the High Court, Osun State.

In a statement issued and signed by Goke Butikakuro, the media aide to the Speaker, Nojeem Salaam, the House said that the timeline given to Aregbesola to respond to the petition has not expired.

The statement also debunked the rumour that Oloyede has been invited to appear at the floor of the Assembly this week. The lawmakers alerted security agencies in the state to warn those who want to use the petition as a launch pad, to steer clear of the state.

“The parliament is still awaiting the response of the governor, whose timeline has not expired, before further action could be taken on the petition.,” the statement said.

Salaam added that “we are in the know of clandestine moves to cause violence in the state by some unscrupulous elements hiding behind Justice Oloyede’s petition, but it must be known that we have not invited Justice Oloyede to appear before the House tomorrow, and the parliament would not be stampeded to do its job; not even at the instance of the fifth columnists who are spoiling for violence.”
