Imo To Establish Court Against Kidnapping, Cultism

 Imo State Government has concluded plans to establish a Special Court against Kidnapping and Cultism in its bid to curb the excesses of kidnapers and cultists in the state.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Acho Ihim stated this during a press briefing after a joint meeting of the three arms of government – Executive, Legislative and Judiciary – to address issues bothering on security in the State.

According to the Speaker, the Court when inaugurated would ensure that whoever was found culpable of any offense that bordered on kidnapping or cultism would be treated according to the dictates of the law.

Ihim warned those engaged in those businesses to back out from such or face the consequences.

He also used the forum to speak on the conditions of the courts in the state adding that it was resolved at the meeting that courts in the state would be renovated and those in a state of disrepair would have new buildings erected for them.

On the issue of the ghost workers’ in its civil service, the speaker said that the situation had eaten deep into the fabrics of the workforce, adding that a special court had also been put in place to try those behind the ugly situation and that offenders would soon be brought to book.

On the Internally Generated Revenue of the state, the Hon. Speaker said the joint meeting of the three arms also resolved that a special court be inaugurated to try and punish tax evaders accordingly.

Speaking during the briefing, Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Sir, Jude Ejiogu said that the administration of Governor Rochas Okorocha has resolved to build a strong revenue base for the state and urged those tax defaulters to refrain from such and urged people of the state to expose corrupt officials who compromise with individuals to evade tax payment.

Also speaking during the briefing, Chief Whip of the House of Assembly and member representing, Ideato South State Constituency, Hon. Ikechukwu Amuka, said that it was resolved at the meeting that the Imo Security Network (ISN) be revamped and to be adequately equipped as to make it stronger to fight criminals as was the position before the 2015 general elections.
