Super Eagles striker, Alex Iwobi, said that he’s excited to be in the team for its 2018 World Cup qualifier against Swaziland.

The 19-year old is one of 24 players called up for Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Swaziland, and had his first training session for the game with the squad on Tuesday evening at the Abuja National Stadium and expressed his delight at being a part of the group afterwards.

“I’m happy to be here, I want to help my country do well and qualify for the World Cup,” he said.

Iwobi got his first call to the Nigerian set-up when he was called to the Nigerian U23’s last year, but never got to play in a competitive game for them. He made his senior debut in a friendly against the Democratic Republic of Nigeria last month and says he wants to continue being in the Nigeria squad.

“It will be a pleasure and honour to keep playing for my country. I have to keep working hard at my club and hope to get more opportunities with the first team and hopefully it translates to me getting more national calls,” he said.

The winger is highly rated at the Emirates and has been tipped as a star in the near future for the Gunners, but he only made his competitive senior debut against Sheffield Wednesday in a 3-0 Capital One Cup loss in October.
