The Edo State governorship ambition of Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, may be truncated anytime soon as Governor Adams Oshiomhole has begun compiling data detailing his corrupt deals while he served as Secretary to the State Government in the administration of former Governor Lucky Igbinedion.

Igbinedion governed Edo State from May 1999 to May 2007. His administration, allegedly crippled Edo State through corrupt practices and embezzlement.

Oshiomhole said on Monday that details of the PDP governorship candidate’s corrupt deals would be forwarded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for investigation and eventual prosecution.

The governor warned Ize-Iyamu and leaders of the PDP that the APC train would crush them if they don’t stay out of the tracks of the party. Oshiomhole spoke in Fugar, Etsako East, Edo State, when he led members of APC on a campaign in the council.

He said: “When I’m going to Anegbette, I will go with the vouchers where the past PDP government with Ize-Iyamu as Secretary to the Government allocated money, which they said was for the construction of Anegbette bridge. In their books, they claimed they have built a bridge to Anegbette, which they did not do, and everything must go to (EFCC in) Abuja.”

The governor dismissed the PDP’s criticism of a new university in Edo North, arguing that the party lacked foresight and the will to meet the needs of the people across the entire divide of the state.

“How can anyone, who understands the logic of development in a world that is knowledge-driven, a digital economy, question the wisdom of investing in education? If they cannot see tomorrow, I have seen next tomorrow, that is what leadership is all about,” he said, telling the electorate, “On September 10, your task is simple, vote for us because of the jobs we have done and more we will do.

“I ask you to trust Godwin Obaseki, he has always been in the engine room, even as they looted the treasury and Edo is very broke, your state, Edo State, is working; we are paying salaries as and when due, when they were arguing about salaries, I decided to increase it. I increased it because I am a worker.”
