Benin – Omorogieva Gbajumo, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming governorship poll in Edo State, has declared that his opponents are in for a shocker as he is favoured to win the poll.

Gbajumo said, “Come September 10, I am going to win that election. I am out to surprise people. I have always done that.

“When I came in from America to contest as the vice chairman of Oredo Local Government Council a lot of people teased me that I was joking but I ended up surprising them. I am out to repeat history.

“Whenever the result is going to be announced I am going to emerge winner. I am confident about it. It is no mere boast. I will be next occupant of Osadebey Avenue (where the Edo State Government House is located),” he boasted.

The former council boss said: “I am not a neophyte in politics. You will recall that in 2007 I came in as the Vice Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council.

“Later, I became the acting chairman of the council from which position I was elevated to the position of chairman. Before I became the chairman of the council the general assumption was that it was difficult to pay staff salary but I changed all that when I assumed chairmanship position. I was paying the salaries as at when due. It will surprise you that since I left the position things have reverted to the old order of nonpayment of staff salaries.

“Again, I have the cardinal programmes of my party, the SDP, to work with. One of the programmes is based on improvement in the agriculture sector where we intend to go into modern mechanised farming which we are sure will yield increase in capacity and bring ease. Also we are introducing free and compulsory education up to secondary school level. I was a beneficiary of such a programme then in the old Mid Western region,” he said.
