Ila People Protest Govt’s Plan To Merge Institutions

The people of Ila Orangun in Osun State on Monday kicked against alleged plans by the state government to merge the state owned tertiary institutions for effective and administrative convenience.

The affected tertiary institutions are Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Osun State College of Technolgy, Esa-Oke, Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun and Osun State College of Education located at Ilesa.

The people of the town including traditional chiefs, the elders, students, artisans gathered at the Igbonibi City Hall, to address press conference expressing dis-appointment over the alleged plan by the state government to relocate or merge the affected schools.

At the venue of the press conference, some community groups, including Ila-Orangun Parapo, Ila-Orangun Elders’ Consultative Forum, Ila-Orangun Community Development Council and Ila-Orangun Action Council added voice to the issue with placards with different instriptions such as “Aregbe should stop inflicting suffering on people and Ila-Orangun,” “Aregbe should not play tribal politics with tertiary institutions in Osun,” “Aregbe should stop his ravaging war against Ila-Orangun”, among others.
