Ikpeazu Inaugurates Committee On Dry Sea Project

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state has inaugurated the implementation committee on Inland Dry Port at Ntigha, Isiala Ngwa North LGA with a view to fast tracking the realization of the project.

Inaugurating the committee at the Government House, Umuahia, the Governor said the exercise has become expedient since his administration is pursuing vigorously to open up trade and commerce which is one of the pillars that will drive development in the state.

According to him, with the fall of oil price in the global oil market, every right thinking government should think of ingenious ways to survive, pointing out that it is important for his government to give serious attention to the dry port project.

He pointed out that those selected in the committee are people with capacity and proven track record but however requested others who are not committee members to come up with contributions that that will help drive the project.

The Governor called on all arms of government to support the committee members to succeed since Abia state will be the ultimate beneficiary of the project.

Responding on behalf of the other members, the chairman of the committee, Arch Dan Nwankwo promised that they will do all to ensure that the project is realized soon.

According to him, the project is a south East project sited in Abia state and has many benefits  including creating employment opportunities  for the youth as well as stimulate a new core of industrial growth at Ntigha in partnership with trusted foreign investors.

He stated that the first phase of the project has two parts – the dry port and container terminal  and the special economic/industrial zone, pointing out that the dry port and container terminal in particular will be of inestimable impact and benefit to the people of the South East as major importers in Nigeria.

He commended the Governor for his support for the project and appealed for his unrelenting encouragement to ensure its full realization.
