The Ikoyi Club 1938 Lagos holiday golf clinic for kids and teens of five years and above will tee off on Monday.

The clinic, which will be organised by the lady section of the club, is aimed at educating the children on the nuances of playing golf as it will be preceded by a competition among the participants on the final day.

To this end, one of the Ikoyi Assistant Resident Pros, Matthew Lawrence, explained that the clinic would be a combination of class theory and practical game on the course before the competition proper.

According to him, “The first one week of the clinic will be for class work, teaching, practice and monitoring the children to know their level of compliance and performance, while the last day will be for the competition proper.”

Lawrence explained that, “Events during the clinic and competition will take different stages.

“Age 5-8 will play 6 holes, 9-13, will play 9 holes and 14 and above will play 18 holes.”

Also speaking, the Ikoyi Lady Captain, Edna Anukwuem, said that the clinic was also aimed at taking golf to the grassroots.

“I feel this holiday period is a good opportunity for us to bring the children together and teach them the fundamentals of golf and creating awareness, because they need to know what the game is all about. By this, we are taking the game to the grassroots,” the captain said.

Concluding, the captain said that the participants would at the end of the day be given certificate, while the winner of the competition will be given a trophy.
