LAGOS – Sam Okpodu, head coach of Ikorodu United has said that his side will fight till the end of the season after the club recorded its second home win against Heartland of Owerri at the Agage Stadium, Lagos over the weekend.

The former Warri Wolves handler overwhelmed with the victory after series of losses and draws and home and away asserted that the team’s position on the table standing does not reflect the performance of the players.

Hence, the ex-international commended his wards for their fighting spirit coming from behind to win the game against a highly rate side in one of the Week 14 fixtures of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

“Our position doesn’t reflect our true performance. It was a test for us to come from behind; we would continue to fight till the end, Okpodu said.

Ikorodu United fondly called “The Oga Boys” ended their 11 games winless run with the 3-1 result over the Naze Millionaires.

The Owerri side took the lead via the strike of Anthony Oussou from close range, before Ikorodu United equalised through Merenini Junior before halftime.

Similarly, Man-of-the-match Moses Ebiye tapped in after the hour to put the hosts ahead before Ifegwu Ojukwu struck a late spot kick after a red card to Zoumana Doumbia.

Thus Okpodu said, “There was a great mental response and there is a special solidarity in the team. You always worry because, no matter how long you are in this job, you never know what is next. The experience we had up front helped.”
