Ikorodu Utd Face Uphill Task Against Rivers Utd

Lagos – Struggling Ikorodu United will have their hands full against third-placed Rivers United on Sunday in Port Harcourt, as week 29 matches.
This is owing to the reverse leg result played at the Onikan Stadium on March 27, where Rivers United won 3-2, even as Ifeagwu Ojukwu’s brace could not save the home side.
The Oga Boys are setting the pace from the rear and are all but guaranteed a return to the Nigeria National League (NNL), from where they gained promotion last season.
With 18 points from 25 matches, Ikorodu United are a sure candidate for the drop at the end of the season unless they win their remaining 12 matches beginning from Sunday, a task that is virtually impossible!
Rivers United, on their own, are red hot, even though they have seen their fortunes nose-dived in their last five matches after winning only two and losing three games. They are currently occupying the third spot on the table after amassing 44 points from 26 matches.
Ikorodu United have lost only once in their last five matches, even though they have not won as well, accruing a paltry four points from a possible 15. The Rivers State-owned team will draw inspiration from their 4-1 demolition of another Lagos side, MFM, on June 12; more so, as MFM are even a stronger side compared to Ikorodu United.
Speaking ahead of the match, Stanley Eguma, coach of Rivers United, said that they are not talking of the title now but winning the matches as they come.
“We are not talking of winning the title, as that may be a distraction. Let us just continue to win the matches and the title could be ours.”
Prediction 3-0 (For Rivers United)
