The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Wednesday said that baring all unforeseen circumstances, the  fire outbreak, which occurred when suspected vandals busted NNPC pipelines at  Ije Ododo in Ijegun area of Lagos would be completely quelled by Thursday evening, June 11.
Spokesman of NEMA in South-West, Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed this in an sms to Daily Independent explained that since the fire has been hard to fight because of the persistent rainfalls and the swampy terrain of the area, which according to him has hampered accessibility to the affected points.
He said, “As at today, Wednesday, June 10, some metres of platforms constructions is yet to be completed and this may drag till tomorrow (Thursday, June 11)  for  completion.”
The NEMA spokesman however assured normalcy could be restored within 15 minutes as soon as platforms are constructed to the points of the busted pipelines.
Daily Independent recalls that an  explosion occurred in Ije Ododo area of Ijegun, Lagos, early morning of Tuesday June 9, 2015, following the rupture of NNPC pipelines by vandals, causing the outbreak of a huge fire that led to the shut down of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and lock up of the fuel supply valve to stop further spread of the fire.
