Nigerian striker, Odion Ighalo and his Manager at Watford Quique Sanchez Flores have earned the first Barclays Premier League awards in club’s history.

Watford’s achievements in December were recognised when the club won both of the Barclays monthly awards for December.

Ighalo was named Barclays Player of the Month of December, while Flores was named Barclays Manager of the Month, the first time anybody from the club had received either honour.

Last month, Flores, who is in his first season in charge in the competition, guided Watford to three wins, including a 3-0 victory over Liverpool, as well as a 2-2 draw away to Chelsea.

Flores emerged victorious from a shortlist of Leicester City’s Claudio Ranieri who led the club to win three times, drew once, losing once., and Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger who won four times losing only once with the club. Also shortlisted is Crystal Palace’s Alan Pardew (W2 D3 L0).

Watford’s run that month was helped in small part by the form in front of goal of Ighalo. The Nigerian scored five goals in December, with his strike originally credited to him against Chelsea chalked off by the Goal Accreditations Panel.

Ighalo has 13 goals in the BPL for the season and beat Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil, Stoke City’s Marko Arnautovic, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli, who were also on the shortlist.
