Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State Governor, has called on all stakeholders to encourage youths with great talents in the state.

Okowa who made the appeal in Port Harcourt at the grand finale of Girls in Engineering, Mathematics and Science (GEMS) competition, said that he was marveled and astonished at the talents that abound in the state.

Senator Okowa, who was represented by Mr. Patrick Uka, the state Commissioner for Information, stated that with what he saw, youths in the region have the capacity to compete favourably with their counterparts all over the world.

GEMS, a programme of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), had been running in the nine states of the Niger Delta region.

It started with the screening of young girls in SS1 and SS2.

GEMS programme is a way of making science fun and as well as encouraging girls to take interest and make choices of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The Governor congratulated Miss Oneyor Oritsemeyiwa Alero, who represented the state during the finals of the competition, for her feat of using water turbine to generate light.

Senator Okowa urged other youths in the state to emulate the doggedness of Oneyor so that together they would contribute their quota to the development of the state in particular and the country in general.

Hon. Kelly Penawou, Special Adviser to the state Governor on Niger Delta Affairs and Braced Commission, also attended the ceremony.
